Journal of Ornamental Aquatics 3 2423-4575 2423-4575 10.22034 2018 4 4 Application of taurine in aquaculture nutrition Seyed Hossein Moradyan moradian.s.h@gmail.com Esmaeil Kazemi esmaeil.kazemi.1986@gmail.com Alireza Ghaedi aliangler@gmail.com Taurine, or 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, is an end product of metabolism of sulphur-containing amino acids. Taurine is found in eggs, fish, meat, and milk, but not in vegetable proteins. It is present in high concentrations in heart, retina, skeletal muscle, brain, large intestines, plasma, blood cells and leucocytes. Therefore, this amino acid plays significant roles in many physiological functions, including membrane stabilization, antioxidation, detoxification, modulation of immune response, calcium transport, myocardial contractility, retina development, bile acid metabolism, osmotic regulation and endocrine functions. In the past, taurine has not been considered as an essential nutrient for fish. However, recent studies have indicated that taurine synthesis widely differs between fish species and demonstrated that it plays a key role in nutrition of fish and shellfish. Fish meals, which are the primary protein source in aquaculture feed industry, have become costly and of limited availability. In recent years, plant-based protein sources, have been receiving considerable attention as a partial or total fishmeal replacer in aquaculture feed industry. However, most ingredients of plant origin are limited in a number of nutrients, including taurine, which might be necessary for the optimal performance and metabolism of farmed aquatic animals, particularly for carnivorous fish. Plant protein sources are deficient in taurine or its precursors, namely cysteine and methionine. The inclusion of high levels of plant protein in fish feeds is cause deterioration in fish performance, possibly due to the inability, or low ability, of these fish to synthesize taurine. On the other hand some freshwater teleost fish are able to synthesize taurine from methionine and cysteine.  In this review we describes the taurine sources, requirement levels in some farmed species, and highlights the biological activities of taurine. 2018 1 01 1 14 http://ornamentalaquatics.ir/article-1-155-en.pdf

Journal of Ornamental Aquatics 3 2423-4575 2423-4575 10.22034 2018 4 4 Tilapia Viral Lake Virus (TiLV) Emerging Disease Laleh Yazdanpanah Goharrizi Jalil Zorriehzahra zorrieh@yahoo.com Viral disease in fish, especially Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV) is a fatal disease with economic value. The emerging virus could be a serious threat to aquaculture of tilapia in Asia and around the world. Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV) as an RNA virus and similar to Orthomyxovirus fish disease has clinical signs such as discoloration, scratches the skin and degeneration of the eye, loss of appetite, slowness of movement, impaired vision and dark lens, lethargy, endophthalmitis, corrosion skin, density in kidney, and encephalitis, congestion average of spleen and kidney, lesions in brain tissue contains edema, hemorrhage, focal, leptomeninges, and capillary congestion in both white and gray matter. Tilapia lake virus has RNA with negative sense and its genome has10 pieces. Biological studies have shown that direct transmission is very important as horizontally way. Viral diseases are a common cause of illness and death in farmed fish. So far mentioned virus is no risk to human health, but it can significantly reduce the population of infected fish. There is no way to treat it effectively, but learn more about the characteristics of patients that can be effective in preventing the virus transmission.   Tilapia fish Viral diseases Tilapia lake virus 2018 1 01 19 25 http://ornamentalaquatics.ir/article-1-153-en.pdf

Trade of ornamental fish has high value added and it isn’t limited to selling of fish and included a wide range of diet, disinfectants and pharmaceuticals, maintenance tanks or aquarium, decorative items, mechanical and electrical equipment such as water pump and physical filters; Hence, it provides suitable and sustainable job opportunities for individuals. Iran is one of the countries that have a trading market for ornamental fish; however, there are limited studies in this area that more of them are specific to the field of production and does not include retail stores and ornamental fish stores. The aim of present study was qualitative and quantitative surveys of ornamental fish sellers in townships of Golestan province in order to identify issues and challenges of them. For this purpose were prepared 2 questionnaires with a combination of open and closed questions, based on initial examination and past interview of smaller statistical Society (total sales of Gorgan, Kordkuy and Gonbad-e Kavus) and confirmed their validity and reliability. questionnaires completed by 2 separate teams from 24 detected ornamental fish store in townships of Golestan province. Result of present study showed the average duration of opening of the ornamental fish store in township of Gorgan except Gorgan was 2.55 years, which represents a new and novelty of this hobby in the township of Golestan province; the average of this indices in the Gorgan was 8.25 years. The average age of the sellers or store owners was 28.39 years, which representsYoung people working in this sector. Finally, the absence of independent :::union:::s, reducing the profit margin, rising energy price, high mortality of fish in transit to the store and the lack of systematic relationship between the production and sale sections were main issues of sellers or ornamental fish stores in the township of Golestan province. 2018 1 01 27 35 http://ornamentalaquatics.ir/article-1-142-en.pdf

It is necessary to consider the suitable nutrition and immunostimulant feed additive to maintain the natural growth and health of aquatic species. Over the past two decades, researchers focused on immunostimulants to reduce stress and diseases, as well as increasing the safety and overall fish health. The use of immunostimulants is a unique method in aquaculture to control and prevent disease and improve the cellular and humeral immune system. These dietary supplements can directly improve immune function by effecting the genes responsible for immune and inflammatory. This study refers to some common immunostimulants in aquaculture and their effects on the expression of immune related genes.
