The aim of the present study was to use gokshura (Tribulus terrestris) as herbal androgen-like for masculinization molly fish (Poecilia sphenops) as one of the most important ornamental fish. For this purpose, female brood stocks of molly fish with embryos were fed with foods that contain 2 and 4% of diet weight of hydroalcoholic extracts of gokshura. The two groups of food include control (basic diet) and fed with methyl testosterone were also considered as controls. New born larval were collected in different treatments during the ninth to eleventh days. They were kept until about two months of age that were able to sex differentiate. The observed sex ratios were analyzed by chi-square test. The results showed that only two treatments including methyl testosterone and gokshura at 4% were able to sex reversal of molly fish to male sex. This research for the first time showed the effectiveness of the orally administration of gokshura for single-sex population production of livebearers fish.}, Keywords = {Sex reversal, Ornamental fish, Medicinal plant.}, volume = {5}, Number = {4}, pages = {1-6}, publisher = {4}, url = {http://ornamentalaquatics.ir/article-1-180-en.html}, eprint = {http://ornamentalaquatics.ir/article-1-180-en.pdf}, journal = {Journal of Ornamental Aquatics}, issn = {2423-4575}, eissn = {2423-4575}, year = {2019} } @article{ author = {ShoaibiOmrani, Babak and Alinezhad, Soheil}, title = {Identification of external parasites in Dwarf gourami (Colisa lalia) fish imported in Iran}, abstract ={Interest in ornamental fishes has developed in Iran and world. Most of these fishes are imported. Probability of exotic diseases transmission also increases with entering them into the new countries. Ectoparasite is an important problem in aquarium fishes. The aim of this research is determination of skin and gill parasites pollution in imported dwarf gourami (Colisa lalia) into Iran. Fifty seven out of one hundred and fifty fish were polluted. Parasites identified by parasite keys after preparing wet mounts and staining. Trichodina sp. (most frequent), Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (least frequent) and Ichthyobodo necatrix were identified as protozoan parasites. Heteronchocleidus buschkieli and Gyrodactylus sp. were the only monogeneans (metazoan) isolated parasites. H. buschkieli was just in gill and the others were observed in gill and skin. Considering, the limitations of water resources, sustainable development of ornamental fish aquaculture requires saving and minimizing water consumption. One of the effective strategies to reduce water consumption and reuse, is water treatment. Nanotechnology has grown over the past years in all aspects of science and industry. The results showed that growth parameters and survival rate were significantly improved in koi fish fed with nauplii from decapsulated cyst(P< 0.05). Also, the fish larval weight was increased in nauplii from decapsulated (252.04%) compared to non-decapsulated (234.07%). FCR was 1.03 and 0.88 for the nauplii from the non-decapsulated and decapsulated cysts, respectively. The minimal survival rate was observed at encapsulated treatment (73%) than decapsulated treatment (84.1%). The results of nutritional value of Artemia Nauplii showed that that nauplii from a newly hatched freshly weighed the encapsulated cyst contained 9.8% protein and 1.8% fat which was lower than the nauplii from the decapsulated cysts (P< 0.05). Also, the hatching rate of cysts in decapsulated treatment (89.08%) was more than encapsulated (76.73%) samples (P< 0.05). In our country, the use of hormones in aquatic animals has been done for about two decades, and in ornamental fish have begun since about a decade ago. Several species of ornamental fish have undergone hormone therapy, including cichlids, Gupi, Koi, Gurami, Molly, Swordfish and others. Considering the global competition in ornamental fish production as well as the increase in the price of the currency that imports ornamental fish imports, it seems necessary to perform various biotechnological methods in domestic products in order to increase the quantity and marketability of various ornamental species. . Hormone therapy is one of the fastest, least costly and, of course, most effective biotechnology methods in aquatic animals, especially ornamental fish, which can greatly contribute to the supply and quality of domestic markets.
